Two years ago, I founded my legal recruiting company with the motto “Be Uncommon.”
The legendary David Goggins inspired the motto.
Goggins overcame incredible obstacles in his life, including childhood abuse, obesity, and depression, to become a Navy SEAL, ultra-marathon runner, Guinness Book of World Records holder for most pull-ups in 24 hours (4,025!), and best-selling author.
David Goggins is uncommon. (he’s actually uncommon amongst the uncommon, but I’ll save that for another post)
But what does it really mean to “Be Uncommon”?
It means not just fitting in but standing out in a sea of sameness.
It means taking risks and doing things others aren’t willing to do.
It means being the best version of yourself in a world that often values conformity and mediocrity.
You can Be Uncommon as an attorney, recruiter, parent, teacher, salesperson, server, accountant, or any other job or profession.
It’s a mindset.
